Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / no cut start

  1. Verify actual line voltage and machine ready state.
  2. Confirm clean dry air at the proper pressure.
  3. Inspect the consumable stack and retaining cap.
  4. Check work clamp placement on clean parent metal.

2. Powers up but no plasma output

  1. Reseat consumables and cap.
  2. Inspect torch lead connection and clamp path.
  3. If still no start with known-good air and consumables, escalate.

3. Cut-start or torch problem

  1. Separate consumable-stack faults from air-supply faults.
  2. Replace worn nozzle and electrode before deeper diagnosis.
  3. Keep clamp and painted or rusty workpiece issues ahead of internal-failure assumptions.

4. Poor cut quality / unstable output

  1. Retest on clean mild steel with conservative travel speed.
  2. Keep light-duty performance limits separate from actual faults.
  3. Small plasma units lose credibility fastest when air is wet or the operator expects larger-machine performance.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Inspect filters, dryers, and water traps.
  2. Confirm the correct consumables are installed and not worn out.
  3. If cut quality improves immediately with dry air and fresh parts, stop blaming the machine.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the problem appears only after several minutes of cutting.
  2. Note any hot input plug, torch lead, or duty-cycle related symptom.
  3. Repeated faults from a cold setup with known-good air should be escalated.
