Failure patterns and repair logic

1. Torch start issues

  1. Confirm clean dry air and correct pressure.
  2. Inspect consumable stack and retaining cap.
  3. Verify work clamp placement.
  4. If the unit still will not start, escalate after basic external checks.

2. Cut-quality issues

  1. Replace worn nozzle and electrode.
  2. Check air quality, travel speed, and standoff.
  3. Test on clean mild steel to remove process variables.
  4. Separate handheld baseline quality from mechanized process-control quality before blaming the power source.

3. Mechanized-specific issues

  1. If hand cutting is normal but mechanized cutting is not, narrow the problem to interface and process setup.

  3. Keep control wiring and external start logic ahead of internal-fault assumptions unless the complaint is present locally too.

4. Intermittent start and trigger complaints

  1. Wiggle-test the torch lead only enough to identify obvious strain-point faults; do not continue if the behavior suggests internal lead damage.
  2. Compare trigger behavior hot versus cold and after consumable replacement.
  3. If the symptom tracks with one torch lead assembly, isolate it from the power source before escalating the machine itself.

5. Gas, air, or consumable related faults

  1. Inspect filters, dryers, drains, and regulator behavior under flow.
  2. Treat air quality and front-end condition as the first branch before suspecting electronics.
  3. At this capability level, poor piercing technique and aggressive cut parameters can consume front-end parts fast enough to imitate machine instability.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Record whether the complaint appears only after warmup or only in mechanized duty.
  2. Inspect airflow, hot work-lead points, hot input hardware, and torch-lead heating.
  3. Repeated faults from a cold handheld baseline should be escalated.
