Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the unit is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove stick output first with known-good dry electrodes and clamp.
  2. If stick is healthy, narrow the fault tree to TIG accessories, gas, and control logic.
  3. If both stick and TIG fail, inspect source power and connector heating before deeper assumptions.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Confirm whether the torch is valve-type or machine-gas controlled and keep the diagnosis consistent with that hardware.
  2. Verify remote mode and trigger expectations.
  3. Check tungsten prep, work return, and actual gas flow before suspecting internal start circuitry.
  4. If the start complaint only appears in pulse mode, remove pulse and prove base DC TIG first.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Remove pulse and advanced settings and test basic DC TIG on clean steel or stainless.
  2. Reintroduce pulse only after base performance is normal.
  3. Keep low-voltage performance limits and source sag separate from true machine instability.
  4. If TIG remains unstable but stick is healthy, stay in torch, gas, or remote branches before broadening to the power source.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify bottle contents and actual gas flow.
  2. Inspect tungsten, cup, collet, torch hose, and front-end tightness.
  3. If stick is good and TIG is poor, stay in the gas and TIG accessory chain until proven otherwise.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check whether complaints appear only after warmup or field use on marginal power.
  2. Inspect hot connectors, clamp hardware, and airflow restriction.
  3. Repeated instability on verified 230 V input with good accessories should be escalated.
