Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify the 230 V receptacle and inspect plug and cord condition.
  2. Check the power switch and visible external protection points.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Confirm pedal connection and response first.
  2. Verify work-clamp bite and torch power or gas connection integrity.
  3. If output is absent with known-good pedal, gas, and clamp, escalate internal diagnosis.

3. Arc-start complaint

  1. TIG start complaints usually begin at the torch, tungsten, pedal, or gas path.
  2. Regrind tungsten, inspect collet grip, and confirm gas flow at the torch.
  3. If starts are erratic only on aluminum, focus on AC setup and front-end condition before deeper machine-fault assumptions.

4. Poor arc quality or unstable output

  1. Return to a conservative DC baseline with fresh tungsten and clean material.
  2. Inspect clamp quality, torch front end, and gas shielding.
  3. Thin material and aluminum exaggerate small setup faults, so eliminate those before blaming the inverter.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify cylinder contents and actual regulator flow.
  2. Inspect hose routing, torch head, cup, collet, collet body, and back cap.
  3. Contaminated tungsten or a loose front end often feels like a machine issue on simple TIG packages.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan operation and clear airflow.
  2. Inspect hot torch parts, hot clamp connection, and duty-cycle use.
  3. If the machine loses output from a cold start or faults repeatedly within normal use, escalate.
