Symptom Most likely causes First checks
No TIG start Remote mismatch, poor clamp, tungsten or gas issue Verify pedal/torch mode, clamp, gas flow, and tungsten
Bad aluminum arc AC setting drift, oxide contamination, poor shielding Reset AC baseline and clean metal
Stick works but TIG does not TIG accessory chain or start issue Check torch, gas, and pedal path
Shutdown or fan complaint Duty-cycle load, blocked airflow, cooling issue Inspect airflow and cooldown behavior

Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No TIG start

  1. Confirm the machine is in TIG mode and expects the attached remote method.
  2. Verify the gas cylinder, regulator, hose, torch, and work clamp.
  3. Check tungsten preparation and arc length.
  4. If stick remains normal but TIG will not start, keep the diagnosis in the TIG accessory path before escalating.

2. AC TIG aluminum complaints

  1. Return balance, frequency, and pulse-related settings to a sane baseline.
  2. Confirm clean base metal and pure argon.
  3. Test on a fresh coupon before deeper diagnosis.
  4. If DC TIG is healthy but AC is not, stay in the AC parameter, gas, and torch branch first.

3. Cooling or shutdown behavior

  1. Review current draw, duty cycle, ambient conditions, and airflow.
  2. If the machine faults or shuts down from a cold clean start, treat it as an internal service issue.

4. Remote and cooler-path complaints

  1. Test the machine with the simplest torch and remote arrangement available.
  2. If equipped with a cooler, confirm flow and hose routing before treating hot torch behavior as a power-source fault.
  3. When arc behavior changes with remote substitution, keep the fault tree on the accessory side first.
