Failure patterns and repair logic

1. No power / dead machine

  1. Verify actual input voltage and remove questionable extension or adapter arrangements.
  2. Inspect plug, cord, switch, and visible external damage.
  3. If the machine is dead on verified input, escalate.

2. Powers up but no welding output

  1. Prove stick output first with a known-good electrode and clamp.
  2. If stick is healthy, keep the diagnosis in the TIG accessory, gas, and remote path.
  3. If both TIG and stick are abnormal, escalate shared inverter diagnosis sooner.

3. Feed, arc-start, or cut-start problem

  1. Confirm argon cylinder, regulator, hose, and gas solenoid behavior.
  2. Verify foot pedal or torch-switch mode matches the connected control method.
  3. Check tungsten prep, cup, collet, and work return before suspecting internal failure.
  4. Keep gas/start complaints separate from AC-parameter complaints.

4. Poor arc quality / unstable output

  1. Return AC balance, AC frequency, and pulse to a moderate baseline.
  2. Test DC TIG on steel first, then AC TIG on a clean aluminum coupon.
  3. If only AC is poor, stay in settings, torch, and gas-path logic before condemning the machine.
  4. If stick also struggles on verified 240 V, broaden the diagnosis to the shared output path.

5. Gas and consumable related faults

  1. Verify actual argon flow and inspect torch hose, cup, collet body, and back cap.
  2. Regrind or replace contaminated tungsten.
  3. AC TIG parameter reset is high value, but torch-side leaks must be cleared before blaming settings alone.

6. Intermittent or heat-related behavior

  1. Check fan behavior and blocked airflow.
  2. Inspect hot torch parts, clamp hardware, and pedal or connector sensitivity after warmup.
  3. If the complaint occurs only at high current, verify the installed torch and cooling path are appropriate before condemning the power source.
