Opening Prompt
- "Stick and TIG work on a MultiSonic220, but MIG is dead and a spool gun is also in the case. What do you prove first?"
What To Listen For First
- the trainee should say polarity connector and stripped-down base MIG setup first
- they should recognize that one healthy process is strong evidence against a shared power-source failure
Redirect Questions
- if they blame the machine too early: "What does it mean that stick and TIG are still healthy?"
- if they get lost in accessories: "What is the plainest base MIG setup you can prove before touching the spool gun?"
Strong Answer Markers
- they move from measurement card to parts substitution card before internal opening
- they separate spool-gun-only faults from base-machine faults
- they keep flashing-panel history in mind without letting it override the process split
Common Failure Modes
- skipping polarity connector proof
- blaming the feeder or power board before base MIG is proven
- letting the presence of a spool gun confuse the entire complaint
Debrief Notes
- reinforce that process isolation is one of the fastest ways to avoid bad board calls on multiprocess units
- internal opening is justified only after base MIG, polarity, and accessory paths are already bounded
